Criticism of warning app
The federal government is trying to keep the corona virus at bay with a specially programmed corona warning app. But not every smartphone can use them.
Munich – The Federal government has in the course of Corona pandemic together with the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) launched the Corona warning app in Berlin. This should enable smartphone owners to determine whether they have recently been in contact with an infected person.
According to the Federal Government’s website, the app, which has been available for download since June 16, is intended to act as a “companion and protector”. Meanwhile, about 15 million users the app installed on their smartphones (as of July 6, 2020).

But there is also criticism of the Corona warning app. According to research by the ZDF mainly use Apple users the program on their iPhone.
Since the developers of the program wanted to create the widest possible app, high technical requirements for use must be met. This can only work with rather expensive smartphones that have the latest technology.
At rather older cell phones if this is usually not the case, it is usually not possible to retrofit your devices. So everyone can Apple productsmade before 2015 will not play the app. At Android users the problem is not quite as pronounced. Even outdated devices Android 6.01 can use the Corona warning app.
Experience has shown that above all older smartphone users on the line, even though just as High risk group should be able to use the additional corona protection.
But also for Low earners and unemployed, who usually lack the money for a modern smartphone, are therefore left out. Ulrich Schneider from the Joint Welfare Association does not want to accept this fact without complaint.
“Anyone who has no money and who is not granted any money to get a smartphone that can work with this app must have it approved by job centers and others,” Schneider said in the ZDF.
Anyone who has not yet downloaded the app to their smartphone but has a device that can easily use the Corona warning app can find the program in the Google and Apple app stores.
The Corona warning app is available for free download there. Downloading the app is generally voluntary for all citizens, but is expressly recommended by the federal government.
