SPD is rid of unwanted member
The controversial author Thilo Sarrazin was excluded from the SPD. He does not want to let that sit on him and has announced further reactions.
Berlin – “Thilo Sarrazin is no longer a member of the SPD! ”, tweeted SPD general secretary Lars Klinbeil on Friday. The federal arbitration commission of the SPD confirmed on Friday afternoon (July 31) in Berlin that the controversial author was excluded from the party. The 75-year-old is particularly criticized for his anti-Islamic statements in the SPD and was considered an unwanted party member.

The Federal Arbitration Commission named the reason for the exclusion “Protection of the reputation and credibility of the SPD”. This had “violated the principles and order of the party significantly and thus caused damage”. The theses that Sarrazin espouses in his book “Hostile Takeover” also deviated so far from the basic values of SPD from the fact that membership in the Social Democrats is no longer possible, it said in the statement of the commission. Sarrazin’s appearances at events of the right-wing populist FPÖ in Austria were also referred to.
The state arbitration commission had already in January Berlin SPD given the Federal Executive’s right to exclude the former Berlin finance senator and author from the party. This decision has now been confirmed by the Federal Arbitration Commission.
Sarrazin can still take legal action against the exclusion from the party. It was “also clear” that he would do that, said Sarrazin in Berlin after the decision of the Federal Arbitration Commission. He expressed the suspicion that their decision “was already clear before the trial” and expressed doubts about the fairness of the procedure.
“The chapter Thilo Sarrazin is over for us,” said Blade hatchet in Berlin. This is a good day for them SPD. “In the future, he will no longer be able to spread his racist, anti-Muslim theses under the guise of SPD membership,” emphasized the Secretary General. He further stated that Sarrazin had been one of the “pioneers” of polarization, hatred and agitation in society in recent years.
Party leader Saskia Esken also welcomed Sarrazin’s exclusion on Twitter. “Sarrazin has expressed racist and anti-Islam and thus has no place in the SPD,” said the SPD politician Karl Lauterbachwho recommended a change of strategy in the wake of the corona pandemic. Former party deputy Ralf Stegner tweeted: “And bye.” He described Sarrazin in the following words: “A racist and intolerant ruler, who, as a writer of boring and poor books with crude inheritance theories and his xenophobic mobster, earned a lot of money and seriously damaged the credibility of our SPD inflicted. “
